The Cabin

Lakefront Property

Our dear grandparents bought this land in the early 1950’s. At that time the cabin’s name was “Old Faithful” (fitting). With a great appreciation for the native land and culture and wanting it to be a place to unplug and rest my grandparents named it “Sleepee Teepee”. With a vision to share it with their family and friends. My parents met at the lake and fell in love there. They too continued the love of spending time at the lake.

Now 3 generations later we have spent weekends, winters & full summers out here since we were born. We have loved all the years and seasons at our cabin and are so tremendously grateful for the legacy passed on by both my grandparents and parents.

My grandfather said Ma-Me-O was the best beach because of the sunsets, white sand beach and sandbars for young kids. He swam in the lake until he was 96 yrs old!

In 2018 while sitting on the beach with some dear friends I had an epiphany about sharing this legacy and the sacred land; to host intimate, small retreats here and to share the healing this land has to offer with others. To also host and collaborate with other great teachers to share their work.

It was called “Woodpecker Lake” until 1858, from Hmi-hmoo (or Ma-Me-O), the Cree word for woodpecker. In 1858 the name was changed to Pigeon Lake.

The Pigeon Lake Provincial Park is established on the western shore of the lake and is accessed from Highway 771.

“WALKING,
I am listening to a deeper way.
Suddenly all my ANCESTORS
are behind me. Be still,
they say. Watch and listen.
You are the result
of the LOVE of thousands.
